My Feet Hurt Every Night for Two Years: Here's What Four Different Foot Creams Did (and Didn't Do)

My Feet Hurt Every Night for Two Years: Here’s What Four Different Foot Creams Did (and Didn’t Do)

I’m a dental hygienist. Eight hours leaning forward, weight shifted onto the front of my feet, on a floor that is basically tile over concrete. By 4 p.m. most days my feet ache in that deep, not-going-away way that makes you dread the walk to your car.

I’ve had this problem long enough that I stopped complaining about it and just started accepting it as part of the job. I had gel insoles, a pair of shoes I spent way too much on and a nightly routine of soaking in warm water. It helped but not enough.

A patient of mine she’s a nurse, so I trust her mentioned she’d been using a magnesium foot cream for a few months and the overnight cramping had basically stopped. I asked her which one. She couldn’t remember the brand but said she found it on myhirelief.com. I went home and ordered one that night.

Then I went overboard

Because I am apparently the kind of person who does this, I ended up buying four different magnesium foot cream options over the following two months to compare them. My husband thought I’d lost it. Maybe!

Two of them were basically just moisturizer with the word “magnesium” somewhere on the label. They smelled nice but did nothing. One had peppermint in it so strong that I had to move to the couch because my husband said the whole bed smelled like a candy cane. That one went in the bin.

The fourth was different. Thicker, less perfumed, absorbed slowly. That one I kept going back to.

What actually changed

The overnight foot cramping was the first thing to go. I’d been getting that arch-pulling cramp maybe two or three times a week, usually around 3 a.m. By the end of week three with the right magnesium foot cream, I went a full week without one. I noticed the absence before I noticed anything positive, if that makes sense.

The morning stiffness got better too. I have that thing where the first few steps out of bed feel like walking on gravel. It didn’t disappear, but by week five it was noticeably shorter. Less time limping to the bathroom which sounds small but adds up.

What I didn’t expect was that my feet just felt less beat up by 3 p.m. at work. Not great but less bad. I’d describe it as the difference between a 7 out of 10 foot day and a 5 out of 10 foot day.

How I apply it now

Four minutes, every night before bed. I sit on the edge of the bed and massage it in properly: the arch, the ball of the foot, the spot where my toes meet the foot. Not just a quick swipe, that detail matters. When I was lazy about it, I got lazy results.

I found the one I stuck with through Hirelief or after spending an embarrassing amount of time comparing ingredient lists. If you go looking, pay attention to whether the product actually lists a magnesium concentration or just says “contains magnesium” like it’s a fun fact.

The product comes from Hirelief, which is the main brand. It’s also available through getheyfra.com and try.gethirelief.com, so you may come across it on different websites even though it’s the same formula.

What it doesn’t fix

My feet are still tired by the end of a full day, they probably always will be. The magnesium foot cream isn’t changing the fact that I stand on concrete for eight hours. What does seem to change is how well my feet recover overnight which means I start the next day in a less bad place.

I’ve been using the same product for four months now. I ran out once and noticed the arch cramping came back in about five days.

Final thoughts

If you stand for a living and your feet are constantly sore, a proper magnesium foot cream is worth the experiment. Not the fancy-smelling lotion ones that just happen to list magnesium in the fine print. One where the mineral is actually the point. Give it three weeks of consistent nightly use and see what happens. Mine took until week three before anything was noticeably different.
